Description

13. F. MEYER STAMP FOR GONVEX SURFACES Jan. 19 1926.
Filed Jan. 12. 1925 Mafia Jami i P76ya Patented Jan. 19, 1926.
UNITED STATES DANIEL F. MEYER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO B. D. SWISHER 00.,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
HAND STAMP FOR ooiv'vnx SURFACES;
Application filed January To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL F. MEYER, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of'Illinois, have inventedv certain new and useful Improvements 1n Hand.
for dating eggs, the cushion and die being in section on line 1-1 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 2 is a plan of the die face; Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is a section corresponding to that shown in Fig. 1, but with the die applied to av convex surface; and T Fig. 5 is a section online 5-5 of Fig. 3. The cushion holder is a cylindrical cup 10 secured to a handle 11. The cushion is'a disk12, having on its inner face two cylindrical legs 13 and 14 separated from each other by an annular space. The inner leg 14 is of thinner material than the leg 13 so that it will yield more freely to a strain put upon it.
In the face of the disk 12 is a recess in which movable type 15 may or may not be 12,- 1925. Serial No. 1,736..
a central opening therethru as shown in Fig.2. If the stamp is to be used for other purposes, then the die simply covers the type I recess, and the device operates asif there was no recess.
The cushion holder lO is made of such diameter that the cushion is a loose fit therein, and the-cushion is secured by its feet to the bottom of the cushion-holder, but is free at its sides. When the die is pressed against a curved surface as shown at S in v Fig. 4, the leg 13 will yield a certain amount for a given pressure, but the leg 14 will yield a greater amount for the same pressure. This permits the die to accommodate itself readily to a convex surface. 7
The stamp shown in the drawings is one adapted for dating eggs, and at the same time giving the name of the person or corporation doing the dating. As will be evident, a hand stamp serving satisfactorily forthis purpose must be capable of makingv a legible imprint on surfaces of 'variable' contours under lightpress ures. This result is accomplished by the. relationship of the legs of the cushion to each other, and to the holder. j v g V What I'claim is: r
1. A cushion for a hand stamp consisting of a plate having a recess in its face for the reception of'movable type, and the back of said plate being provided with inner and outer legs, the inner leg being more'yielding than the outer'one. f 2. A cushion for a hand stamp consisting of a disk having a cylindrical flange extending from the back thereof at its edge and an inner cylindrical projection of the same length and separated from the flange by an annular space, said inner projection being 7 more yielding than the flange.
DANIEL F. MEYER.
