Disc apparatus; gauges; trucing rotating tools.-A machine for grinding simultaneously two aligned axle bearing-guide surfaces on locomotive frame plates, or other aligned surfaces, consists of a support 2 movable on guides 1 and carrying two slides 3, 4 on which are mounted, in cross slides 5, 6, grinding-heads 7, 8 having opposed grinding discs 9, 10, 9<1>, 10<1>. The leads are adjustable about vertical axes 11 and about horizontal pivots 12. The locomotive frame is positioned above the machine, which is traversed on the guides 1 to locate the heads adjacent opposite axle guide surfaces, and the heads are then reciprocated horizontally across the surfaces, the discs 9, 10 being of such a size that no vertical movement is required; the heads are then moved axially of the discs and the other surfaces of the opposite guides are ground. The work is ground to the desired extent by the use of adjustable diamonds 24, 25, which are set so that if reciprocation of the grinders continues after the work is to size the grinders are trued by the diamonds, and no further grinding of the work takes place. The inclined surfaces of the guides may be treated, after removal of the wedges, by adjustment of the heads about the pivots 12.
