Locking. - Securing tube ends to plates is effected by inserting the tube end a between the conical flange x on the plate b and a conical member d, the tube end being subsequently deformed by hammering to the shape shown in Figs. 1 and 2. A similar arrangement may be employed for attaching buttons to fabric which is gripped between the socket f, Fig. 4, and the flange g on the button e. In one application of the invention to lock-nuts, the flange l, Fig. 5, on the nut k is deformed by a washer m to grip a globular portion n of the bolt adjacent to the threaded extremity. To facilitate the deformation of the flange it may be provided with longitudinal saw cuts. In another form of lock nut, an annular flange v, Fig. 9, is pressed into engagement with the threads of the bolt by the auxiliary washer.
