Abstract

186,856. Meredith, J. T. Sept. 30, 1921, [Convention date]. Locking bolts, nuts, studs, and set-screws; rivets.-A bolt 1, Fig. 3 or a. screw, or a rivet 8, Fig. 5, provided with a head a at one end is slotted at the other end 3 and is formed with an axial bore of gradually diminishing diameter at the slotted end; and a rod 5 is pressed into the axial bore to expand the slotted end 3 against a nut 2 or the material 7 in which the bolt, screw, or rivet is inserted. The inner end of the rod 5 may be tapered as shown in Fig. 3.
