289,801. Wilhelm, K. F. May 2, 1927, [Convention date]. Addition to 226,767. Fats and fatty oils, purifying.-In the purification of fats and oils by means of alcohol or solvent which is miscible with water and dissolves fatty acids resins and bitter mucilaginous substances, but does not readily dissolve neutral fats, with the addition of water and ammonia as described in the parent Specification. there are added a fat-solvent which will not mix with the deacidifying agent, and Glauber salt, whereby the purified oil or fat is readily and completely separated. In an example the fat is heated with a mixture of equal parts of the above ammoniated-aqueous-alcohol with benzine or methylene chloride or trichlofrethylene, about 1 per cent of Glauber salt preferably dissolved in the aqueous alcohol is mixed in, and the whole allowed to stand.
