Centrifugal - action lubricating; lubricant conveyed by mechanical means. - The axle journal d of a railway vehicle bears on an integral bush b fixed by screws c in a, bearing box a the lower part of which forms an oil reservoir, the bore of the bush b being larger than the diameter of the journal d so that a sickleshaped space e which acts as an oil cushion is formed between the parts b, d. The bush b has lubricant grooves l, p, the bearing box has cavities n and ribs o, and a plate g fixed to the axle has a projection i with pockets k. At low speeds of rotation lubricant is lifted by the pockets k and fed to the grooves l, p, At high speeds it is thrown against the casing wall m, drains into the cavities n and is thus fed to the grooves l, p. The grooves p fall slightly longitudinally of the bearing.
