Knot-tying devices.-In a knot-tying device for making weavers knots, the strands a, b are laid across the device behind the knotting bill 11 from the same side and uncrossed. Fig. 1 shows the initial position of the strands a, b. When the thumb-piece 18 is depressed, the knotting bill 11 is turned by the engagement of its thread 10 with a toothed quadrant 15. The first half rotation of the bill makes a loop in the strand a. Further rotation makes a twist in the strand a and brings the loop, Fig. 5, across the strand b. A further half rotation carries the bill between the strands and loops the strand b into the strand a. Another half rotation brings the bill 11 upwards and opens its scissors to cut the strand b on the right-hand side of the bill, Fig. 7. At the same time, a pivoted arm 29 commences to swing outwards under the action of a pin and slot and causes the arm 33 to nip the thread a at 37, Fig. 7. As the bill further rotates, the arm 29 is swung outwards to its full extent and a lever 38 is operated to cause the scissors 32 to cut the thread a at the right-hand of the bill. The scissors of the bill 11 hold the thread b and as the arm 29 moves, it pulls the loop off the bill, Fig. 8, and makes the knot.
