Abstract

Framework; planes, construction of.-In a wing having ribs formed of metal of substantially U-shaped cross-section, the edges of the rib are curled back to present rounded surfaces to the covering fabric. Each rib comprises upper and lower booms a<1>, a<2> of the section shown at a<1>, Fig. 4, with rounded edges b<1>, b<2>. The rib is stiffened by tubular or other struts d the ends d<2> of which are shaped to fit the booms a<1>, a<2>. The struts are positioned on the booms by depressions g formed in the booms on each side of the struts, the depressions also serving to hold flanged nuts f attached to the bracing wires e. The booms are attached to the spars c by flanged plates c<1> and are connected together at their leading and trailing edges by pairs of flanged gusset plates h, h<1>.
