Abstract

289,188. British Dyestuffs Corporation, Ltd., Baddiley, J., Dootson, P., Shepherdson, A., and Thornley, S. Feb. 8, 1927. Flavanthrone derivatives containing amino groups, such as the products obtained from flavanthrone by nitration and reduction, or the products obtained by the reaction of the hydroxylamine on flavanthrone as described in Specification 282,852, and condensed with polynuclear aromatic halogen compounds having a ring system of twice or more fused nuclei, such as chloranthraquinones, halogenacenaphthenequinones, halogenflavanthrones, or halogenpyranthrones. The products are vat dyes, or if they contain carboxylic or sulphonic groups acid dyes for wool or silk. According to an example a vat dye giving brown shades on cotton is obtained by condensation of the reaction product of hydroxylamine and flavanthrone with dibrompyranthrone.
