Abstract

289,186. Empson, A. W. Feb. 1, 1927. Mixers with circulating-devices. -Apparatus for supplying an emulsifying-machine &c. with a mixture at a constant head comprises a tank in which the materials are mixed by circulating them through an upright open-ended tube provided with an orifice through which part of the circulating materials is discharged to the emulsifier; by these means the head at the discharge orifice is maintained constant irrespective of the level in the tank. The materials are mixed and forced through the tube 19, disposed in the tank 3, by a propeller 27 mounted between fixed blades 14, 21. The material overflows through holes 32 and returns to the body of the tank. Part of the material leaves the tube 19 by an orifice 29 fitted with a discharge pipe 31 leading to a strainer 8, and thence from the apparatus; the strainer 8 is mounted between a pair of apertured discs 4, 5, a packing ring 10 being provided. When the level in the tank falls below the bottom of the tube 19 and the materials are no longer circulated, a valve 6 is opened to discharge the last of the material. The material may be circulated by a centrifugal pump, and the support 13 for the impeller may be carried on a spider, the pipe 31 discharging directly to the emulsifier &c. The apparatus may be supplied with ingredients each of which is circulated and mixed in an apparatus of the same kind. Specification 282,466, [Class 23, Centrifugal machines &c.], is referred to.
