Percussive drills.-Percussive drills for drilling shot-holes for blasting, or for deep-boring, have a semi-conical or like tapering recess in the cutting end and a passage leading therefrom to the side of the drill, whereby a projection is formed in the bottom of the bore-hole so that the drill is deflected and a hole is drilled of larger size than the drill. Figs. 1 and 2 show a small drill provided with radial cutting edges 3 surrounding a semiconical recess 6 from which a V-shaped passage 7 extends laterally to join a longitudinal recess 8. The cutting edges may incline rearwardly from their outer to their inner ends. In a modification, the cutting edges are parallel while in a further form only the central cutting edge is radial, those on each side being tangential to successively larger circles. In large drills, a radial cutting edge 12, Fig. 8, is formed on a longitudinal rib 11 and projects in front of the inner end of the recess 6. In each form, a water-supply hole 2 may be provided.
