Abstract

288,271. Vereinigte Stahlwerke Akt.- Ges. April 8, 1927, [Convention date]. Rails with hard wearing surfaces are made by casting soft steel about an insert or inserts of steel containing chromium, nickel, manganese, silicon, titanium, carbon or other hardening material and rolling to the desired form, Fig. 8. In the case of grooved rails the hard metal need not be carried to the sides or to the bottom of the groove Fig. 13, in the latter case two inserts are required. Both hard and soft steel should contain some molybdenum to improve their weldability.
