Abstract

287,407. Douglas, C. H. Sept. 24, 1927. Boat hooks.-A device for facilitating passing a rope through the ring of a buoy or over a projection actuated at, a height from the ground comprises a crutch member a secured to a staff b. The end of the rope k looped in a projection on one arm of the clutch is passed through the mooring ring l which falls into the hollow of the crutch b, under pressure, depresses the curved extremity d<2> of an arm d pivoted to the short portion of the crutch and so causes a jaw to engage with the end of the rope the transfer from one jaw to the other being effected by the catch h. Removal of the pressure by retracting the boat hook causes the jaws to separate with the rope held in the jaw d<1> and so completes the looping operation.
