Abstract

287,199. Armstrong, J. J. V., (Union Special Machine Co.). Nov. 18, 1926. Overhead-sewing machines. - The oscillating shaft 19, from which the feed cups are actuated, is connected to the driving shaft 2 by a linkage having adjusting means accessible from the interior of the casing for positively varying the amplitude of vibration of the shaft. An eccentric strap 34, driven by an eccentric 35 on the shaft 2, is connected to a ball-stud 35a on a rod 36 passing through a sleeve 37 clamped on the shaft 19. The rod is adjusted in its position in the sleeve by a screw 43, held by a collar 44 in a bracket 40 on the sleeve and engaging a tapped hole in the rod. The rod is further secured by set screws. The feed cups are actuated from the shaft 19 through lever arms 18 having several slots therein for the attachment of links 14 at varying distances from the shaft so as to allow variation of the stroke. The links are connected to clutch plates 10 which actuate the feed cups through silent ratchets. The shaft of the outer cup rotates in a sleeve carried by a bracket movable by a spring controlled lever so as to separate the feed cups.
