287,141. Knowling, W. M., and Kostevitch, M. March 16, 1927, [Convention date]. Petrol, purifying.-Petrol is purified by filtration through activated charcoal mixed with silica gel. In an example, a filter arranged between the fuel tank and the carburetter of an automobile is packed with a mixture of 5 grams of wood charcoal, boxwood charcoal, or cocoanut charcoal, wih 2.5 grams of silica gel with wid'e pores and 1.5 grams of silica gel with fine pores. Specifications 263,198 and 263,199, [both in Class 1 (iii), Oxides &c., Metallic], are referred to for the manufacture of the silica gels.
