Abstract

Poultry and game, dressing.-The rotating disc, in the bird-plucking machine described in the parent Specification, is replaced by a drum 32, Fig. 1, mounted on a shaft 27 and having rectangular circumferential openings 38. The drum is enclosed in a stationary cylindrical casing 30 which also encloses a fan 33 rotated by the shaft 27. An annular baffle 35 covers the fan blades. Within the drum 32 and mounted on a stationary sleeve 36 is an arcuate member 39, Fig. 3, resiliently pressed against the drum by springs 40 and having a sharp edge 46 cooperating with the openings 38 to grip and withdraw the feathers. The casing 30 is formed with an opening 42 at the operative part of the drum; this opening is covered by a grid 43 pivoted at 44 and clamped at 45 in adjustable position corresponding to the length of the feathers to be withdrawn. The grid 43 protects the hands of the operator and the flesh of the bird. The drum 32 may be formed with circumferential depressions and elevations to accommodate the body of the bird or may be barrel-shaped. The edges of the openings 38 may be castellated and the casing 30 may be formed with two oppositely disposed openings 42 which, together with the provision of a second member 39, permits the plucking of two birds at once. The fan 33 may be replaced by an injector or air-pump:
