Abstract

286,374. Halliday, G. Dec. 6, 1926. Heating by electricity. -A heater for insertion into a storage tank 1 comprises a cylinder 6 closed at one end and containing one or more open ended tubes 8 arranged longitudinally in the cylinder and supported from the closed end 7, the other ends of the tubes being coupled to the tank by pipes 12 and d unions external thereto. Insulating sleeves carrying heating wires are mounted on the tubes. The sleeves are made of mica or silica and may be of triangular or polygonal shape in cross section. The heating element on one of the tubes or an auxiliary heater is controlled solely by a thermostat 18. The tubes 8 and cylinder 6 are preferably made of copper, and a conical extension 14 is arranged at the top of the cylinder. The outlet pipe 16 is connected to a pipe 15 leading to the top of the tank. The tank is arranged on an outer container 13 from which it is insulated by slag wool.
