I. SORDI. ARRANGEMENT FOR THE HEATING OF ROOMS BY MEANS Or' ELECTRIC THERMOGEN. APPLICATION FILED AUG-28,1918.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.

ARRANGEMENT FOR THE HEATING OF ROOMS BY MEANS. OF ELECTRIC THERMOGEN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 7, 1919.
Application filed August 28, 19.18. Serial-No. 251,754.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, INNOCENTE Sonnr, a subject of the King of Italy, and resident of Milan, Italy, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Arrangement for the Heating of Rooms by Means of Electric Thermogen, of which the following is specification.
This invention relates to improvements in liquid heaters and particularly to electrically heated means for heating liquids.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide improved electrically heated means through which water or the like may pass, and this means may be inserted in the piping of a radiator heating system or it may be connected with the water pipes of a building, so that the water passing through the piping or pipes will be heated.
A further object of the invention is to provide'a liquid heating means in which the liquid will be preheated while traveling-in one direction through the device and will be additionally heated While traveling in the opposite direction through the apparatus.
. A still further object is to furnish'a liquid heating apparatus made up of sections or units, so that the apparatus may be built up urpose desired. With the foregoing ob ects outlined and with other objects in View, the invention consists in the novel features hereinafter described in detail, illustrated inthe accompanying drawing, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to thedrawing, A re resents the sections of the heater, each 0 which consists of a casing 1 in which is arranged two concentric pipes 2 and 3. These pipes 2 and 3 are spaced apart to provide an annular chamber having closed ends, and heating means, such as an electric resistance 5,
is placed in this chamber. The electric resistance is insulated from the pipes by means of insulating packings 4, and these packings, while preventing electric current passing to the pipes, permit the heat of the resistance to reach and heat said pipes.
The space formed between the casing 1 and the pipe 2 of one section A is connected by a pipe 6 to the pipe 3 of the succeeding section, so that liquid passing through the pipe 3 of the first section will have to pass between the pipe 2 and the casing l of that section before it reaches the pipe 3 of the next section.
The pipe 3 of the first section A of the apparatus has an inlet continuation s, and the casing 1 of the last section of the apparatus has an outlet continuation t. It will be noted that all of the pipes 6, s and t are connected to the sections at one end of the casing 1- and it is obvious that the purpose of this is to cause the liquid to travel in a zig-z'ag path through the apparatus, so that the water will first travel through a heated pipe and then alon the exterior of another heated pipe. In his manner the full ca pacity of the heating means is utilized.
The ends m andn of the resistances are connected to the electric line wires.
The ends 8 and t of the apparatus may be connected to sections of the piping of a building water system, so that water drawn off by the cooks or faucets may be quickly heated, or these ends ma be connected to sections of the piping o a Water heating system, whereby the apparatus may be utilized for heating the water passing to the radiator or radiators.
The apparatusmay also be used in a water heating system instead of the ordinary radiators.
It is obvious that the water may also be circulated in a reverse direction through the apparatus.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A liquid heater comprising an elonextending into said casing from the aper tured head of the casing and having an open end arranged in close proximity to the imperforatc head of said casing. a pipe secured to the body and passing through the aperture in the body, another pipe passing through the aperture of the apertured head and integral with the inner wall of said conduit, and an electric resistance located be- 5 tween the Walls of said conduit for heating liquid passing through and around said (:onduit.
2. A group of liquid heating elements as defined in claim 1, in which the pipe con nected to the body of one casing extends to 10 and integral with the pipe forming the inner Wall of the conduit in an adjacent easing.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
