Abstract

285,863. Bonwitt, G. Feb. 24, 1927, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Addition to 285,066. Cellulose solutions and solutions of cellulose esters and ethers, processes for making filaments from.-The process for preparing viscose silk exhibiting a reduced lustre, described in the parent Specification, is now applied to silk made from other solutions of cellulose and cellulose derivatives, namely, solutions of cellulose, cellulose hydrate, and cellulose conversion products, of cellulose nitrate and acetate, and of alkyl-, aryl- and aralkyl-celluloses and other mixed or simple cellulose esters and ethers in hydrochloric acid, caustic soda, acetic acid, cuprammonia, acetone, ether, alcohol-ether, or other volatile on non-volatile solvents. The added substance must be immiscible with the cellulose solution &c., or at least not miscible in all proportions, and it may evaporate during the drying of the thread after fixation, or it may be such as to remain therein; suitable substances are monochlorbenzene. xylene, hydrogenated naphthalenes, and mineral oils of high boiling point, and it is convenient if the added substance has the same specific gravity as the spinning solution so as to retard separation. In examples, paraffin oil is emulsified with viscose; a mixture of tetrahydronaphthalene and carbon tatrachloride is emulsified with viscose, or the two substances are added simultaneously or separately; and paraffin oil is added to a solution of cellulose acetate in acetone
