Abstract
285,719. Percival, S., (Davis Welding & Manufacturing Co.). July 12, 1927. Lift valves; seats.-A valve for the bottom discharge outlets of gasoline and like tanks comprises a casing 15 secured into a collar 4 welded into the tank bottom, and a seating 22 consisting of an annular ring 17 the lower part of which is a close driving fit in a. socket in the casing disposed some distance from the screw threads 6 so that the seating is removed from the zone of possible distortion due to the screwing of the casing into the collar 4. The upper external part of the seat is spaced from the casing and has grooves 23, 25 filled with a mixture of litharge and glycerine acting as packing. The top of the seating is flat, as also is the valve face so that slight displacement or distortion does not affect tight seating contact. The outer edge of the seating is sloped downwards, at 26, level with the curved interior 27 of the casing whereby dirt is flushed away with the fluid. The valve member 80 is pressed towards its seating by a light spring. 29 below, whereas the actuating mechanism is controlled by a heavier spring 39. The actuating mechanism comprises a screw 35, nut member 34 and a long link 33, as shown.
