Abstract

373,476. Ball and float valves. KING, W. M., 4, Vivian Street, Wellington, New Zealand. July 20, 1931, No. 20701. Convention date, May 29. [Class 135.] Relates to ball and float 'valves for water tanks wherein the water supply passes a valve seating 2 adapted to be closed by a valve 12 having grooves or flutings in its stem below the valve seat, the stem being operated by a pivoted float-controlled lever 18. According to the invention the passage in which the valve stem is guided has on opposite sides grooves or flutes 13 and the valve stem has grooves or flattened portions 15 the adjacent grooves 13, 15, forming openings through which water passes to the tank when the valve is open. As shown the valve 12 seats on a rubber ring 3 and the stem has a reduced portion 21 and a slot 16 for the cam-like end 20 of the operating lever 18. The sleeve 1 housing the valve stem is screwed at its upper end to a casing 4 having a restricted orifice 9 and a screwed connection 5 for the supply pipe and at its lower end the sleeve 1 is screwed to receive a discharge pipe 25. The float may comprise a vessel 27 with an open bottom so that as the water in the tank 8 rises the air trapped in the vessel 27 gives buoyancy to the float.
