Abstract

Jan. 4, 1927 Inspection pits.-A guided platform hoist for a locomotive inspection pit has the platform raised and lowered by links acting like toggle links, the links being operated by screw-and-nut or winch actuated gearing &c. and the platform being guided by guides or by linkage, a supplementary track section being positioned to bridge the pit when the platform is lowered. The platform e carries track sections a and has rollers f at each side running in guides g with vertical upper ends and curved lower ends. The operating links i are arranged at each side of the pit and are pivoted at one end to the platform and connected at the other end to crossheads s carrying rollers r running on a horizontal track n and having a nut portion engaging a screwed shaft u operated by gearing w and an electric motor z. In operation, the platform is pushed upwards by the links until the track sections a are in alignment with the permanent track rails. Supplementary track sections 11, Fig. 1, mounted on sliding girders 10 are connected by linkage 14, 16 so as to work in unison, the link 14 being mounted on a pivot 13 and carrying a counterweight 19 and having a linkage extension 18 with its free end in the path of the platform. When the platform is lowered, the linkage is actuated to cause the supplementary track sections to be brought into alignment with the permanent track rails and so bridge the pit.
