Abstract
285,036. Continental & Overseas Trust, Ltd. Feb. 9, 1927, [Convention date]. Grant of Patent opposed. Composite photographs. - In making still or kinema pictures, the scenery is represented in its entirety by a miniature model, photograph, drawing, &c., the several parts of which, together with parts of real scenery in which actors &c. appear, are reflected simultaneously into the camera objective by a number of mirrors forming a mosaic, in combination with a compound prism whose function is to obliterate, in the composite picture, the zones of separation between the various mirrors forming the mosaic. Fig. 3 shows in plan an arrangement for taking views of a house shown in Fig. 2, wherein actors are to appear at the door 10 and upper window 11. Mirrors 13, 14, 15 are erected to reflect respectively the left side, the right side, and the two windows immediately above the door in the complete model placed at 17. Mirrors 12 and 16 are erected to reflect respectively the real door erected at 10 and the real upper window 11, Fig. 2, erected at 11, Fig. 3. The mirrors are of different widths, but are so arranged or inclined as to subtend the same angle at the camera 4. In front of the camera objective is placed the prism 9 for obliterating the zones of separation of the several mirrors. The action of the prism is shown in Fig. 4 for a system of two mirrors 5, 6 only. The prism has a plane surface 18 facing the objective 4, and inclined surfaces 19, 20 intersecting in a line a, b, which is parallel to the adjoining edges xy and rz of the mirrors. The prism deflects the rays from the two mirrors so that, in the camera, the images reflected bv the two mirrors have no discernible zone of separation.
