Abstract

284,352,. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Jan. 28, 1927, [Convention date]. Electrodes.-An accumulator plate consisting of a lead grid the openings in which are filled with an alloy of lead and sodium or other metal is made by first casting prisms of the alloy in the spaces of a deep grating c in a mould a. The grating is then removed and molten lead poured into the mould between the prisms. The whole block when cooled is sawn into plates of the required thickness and the metal with which the lead is alloyed is removed and the plate formed in the usual way. In a modification of the process the lead framework is first made by casting lead round prisms of suitable material located in the mould. These prisms are then removed and the alloy cast into the spaces so formed. In order to keep the lead framework cool during this process, prisms of iron may be inserted in the spaces surrounding the space which is being filled with the molten alloy. In a modification the block of lead alloy and the plates obtained therefrom have only an external lead frame. Specifications 23198/94 and 270,763 are referred to.
