Channels and reservoirs in vertical shaft bearings.- A bearing for the spindle of a spinning or like machine has a stationary bush D fitted with a lubricant container G. The bush D has, on its inner surface, an annular lubricant groove D<2>, on its outer surface one or more lubricant return grooves D<3> connecting the groove D<2> with the reservoir G, and in its lower end apertures D<1> within the reservoir. The spindle A has a rotary sleeve C and in operation lubricant is sucked through the apertures D<1> up the spindle and returns to the reservoir via the grooves D<2>, D<3>. The sleeve C or bush D may have a helical groove to assist circulation and the reservoir G may have an inner wall G<2>.
