Abstract

283,516. Gilbert & Barker Manufacturing Co., (Assignees of Davis, J. B.). Jan. 12, 1927, [Convention date]. Fixed - chamber apparatus. - In petrol &c. dispensing apparatus of the type employing a discharge pipe vertically movable in the measuring chamber for varying the amount to be delivered, the supply valve is open only while the discharge pipe occupies its " fill " position and the drain valve cannot be opened when the discharge pipe is moved to any other position. The selective positioning of the discharge pipe is controlled by pivoted stops, and a counter carried by the positioning means is operated by stationary pins. The measuring receptacle 20 is mounted as usual on a column 39 enclosing the necessary piping and also a reciprocating pump operated by a, handle 47. The supply pipe 27 surmounted by a deflecting cap 29 is fitted with a valve 54 the operating spindle of which has a plate 100 connected to a spring-depressed link 101 controlled by a vertically guided block 64. The discharge pipe 30 is moved up and down by means of this block to which is pivoted a handle 61. When the handle is moved to its upper limit in the slot 74 of the panel 68 so that the end of the discharge pipe is above the overflow pipe 28, that is, in the " fill " position, the block 64 raises the link 101 to open the supply valve. The parts are maintained in this position by a spring catch 96 disengageable by pulling an extension 99 to the left (Fig. 6). To draw off a, measured quantity, one of a series of stops 79 pivoted on a rod 78 is first swung to the left, Fig. 6, to obstruct the descent of the block 64 and as soon as the block is lowered and the link 101 freed, the supply valve, closes. The drain valve, situated in a junction piece 59 connecting a drain pipe 56 and the overflow pipe 28, is operated by means of a, sector plate 124, Fig. 10, with which engages a bell-crank lever 117 rocked by connection with a vertically guided plate 107 provided with a handle 106 and linked to a plate 126. When the handle 106 is depressed to open the drain valve this plate 126 descends into position to obstruct the catch extension 99 and thus preclude release of the .discharge pipe from the " fill " position. If the pipe is in any other position the drain valve cannot be opened for a block 128 on the supply valve sector 100 then stands in the path of the drain valve sector 124. The drain valve is urged to closure by a spring 113 and when open prevents the door 42 from shutting by reason of the handle 106. To shut the door this handle must first be depressed into a slot 44 and the door swung over it. The valves and other devices except the stops and the handles 61, 106 are rendered inaccessible by means of the panel 68 of channel section with side extensions. To show the condition of the apparatus as regards the discharge of the measuring chamber to the delivery hose 37 or back to the storage tank, a signal arm 129 is connected by a link 131 with the drain valve sector 124. With counting-apparatus. - A counter 85 carried by the discharge-pipe fittings is operated by fixed pins 89, the registration occurring on the ascent of the pipe to the " fill " position.
