Abstract
283,386. Shimizu, S. April 23, 1927. Dynamometers, rotary - transmission. - Comprises a particular construction of the type in which the torsion of a shaft is measured by the variation in an electrical resistance. Inner and outer casings Q, P are secured to a shaft S at sections S1, S2 at some distance from one another. V-shaped conductors E arranged in a series of axial rods are secured to the outer surface of the casing Q and connected as shown to slip rings C1, C2 insulated from the shaft. To the inner surface of the casing P, insulated therefrom, and immediately over the conductors E are secured conductive bridge pieces D each of which engages one row of the conductors E with a suitable pressure. An electric circuit is connected to the brushes B1, B2 and the change in the resistance of the conductors when the shaft is under and not under torsion is measured by a bridge method. A correction for temperature will have to be made unless the conductors are made of material rendering this unnecessary. In a modification two rows of resistances are used reversely and the ends connected to four slip rings so that each row is in one arm of the bridge.
