Abstract

283,271. Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., and Trevaskis, H. Oct. 6, 1926. Coating-machines.-In apparatus for painting lines &c. or otherwise marking wheel-rims, the paint &c. is sprayed on the rims, and the rim rotates and/or is supported upon a roller or rollers. In a preferred form the apparatus comprises two sets of rollers 4, 5, each set comprising two rollers 6, 7, and driven by a band 9. The rim 10 is supported by the rollers and rotated by frictional contact therewith. The set 4 may act as auxiliary line-marking means, being partially immersed in fluid 11 contained in a tank 12. Scrapers 14 allow of variation in width of the lines applied. An atomizer 15 is arranged between the two roller sets, and adjustable plates 16, 17, are provided to limit the surface of the rim sprayed. More than one set of marking rollers may be provided for application of lines of different colours, which may be different from the colour sprayed. Colour applied by the various members may be applied simultaneously or successively. The rollers may be canted and their distance apart varied, and if used as lining rollers may receive paint by contact with auxiliary partially immersed rollers. The device may be carried by a vice 1 upon a frame 2 having guides 3 for the rim. Supporting, aligning or driving rollers may be provided auxiliary to those arranged adjacent to the spraying means.
