Abstract

283,202. Blanke, F. Jan. 8, 1927, [Convention date]. Purifying saccharine liquids.-The automatic saturation of sugar juice by carbon dioxide or sulphur dioxide is effected by causing the juice to flow from a tank in which its level is restored into an ascending pipe under pressure of the gas, the pipe being provided with overflows connected to an electric measuring instrument which operates to control admission of air to the gas flow until, at the required alkalinity of the juice measured in terms of its electrical conductivity, the air admission is suspended. As shown, the juice flows from a separator a into a tank b provided with a float h and valve i. From the tank b it is forced under gas pressure from the pipe d up the ascending pipe c which is provided with overflows e, e<1> emptying into a reservoir g. As the alkalinity in the pipe c varies, the measuring instrument operates a regulator m which dilutes the acid gas by admission of air into the gas flow from the valve n. The flow from the tank b is controlled by the level of juice in the reservoir g through the interconnected float k and valve i. The flow of gas from the pipe d is also controlled by the level of the juice in the tank b.
