Abstract

283,046. Mitton, J. May 13, 1927. Tyre covers, making. A machine of the kind used for winding fabric around wires in the formation of pneumatic tyres has one of the wire - carrying drums 8 mounted on. a bracket 25, movable to alter the tension of the wires 9 by means of the foot lever 29, lever and link 31, 32 and adjustable spring- controlled toggles 33, 34, Figs. 1 and 3. The second wire-carrying drum comprises a semicircular row of grooved pulleys 24 mounted on the track 19 of the spool-carrier. Two spools of fabric 18 are revolved around the wires along an elongated track 19 and their spring controlled spindles are reciprocated on non-rotatable spindles by means of a cam 20 and a roller on the spindle, Fig. 9, to give the correct angle of strip. The spindles 17D are mounted at a suitable inclination on roller-guided articulated members 17A, 17B, alternately long and short, which are driven by worm 16 and racks integrally formed on the members. A gap 23 in the spool carrying device and a removable part of the track p.ermit removal and insertion of the wires. The spools are tensioned by springs 18c and lock nuts 18D whose thread is of opposite hand to the rotation of the spindles. The machine is driven by the main shaft 1, the worm, worm wheel and train 2 - - 6 driving the wirecarrying roller 8 and the variable friction gear 10, 11 driving the spool-carriers.
