282,543. Mellor, J. W. Nov. 18, 1926. Drawings to Specification. Dry processes of extracting platinum.-Platinum is extracted from platiniferous ores by treating the ores with a molten metal such as lead, or lead containing a small proportion of an alkali or alkaline earth metal, which dissolves platinum. The finely divided ore may be agitated with the molten lead or blown into it by means of a gas such as producer gas or deoxidized flue gas. The gangue and dross collecting on the surface of the lead may be blown away or skimmed, and the process may be made continuous, the platinitferous lead being cupelled, the lead oxide reduced, and the lead returned to the extracting vessel, while the gaseous reduction products are returned to the holder from which the blower is fed.
