Abstract
282,038. Cousin, M. Dec. 11, 1926. [Convention date]. Movable-abutment type; working-fluid supply; cooling parts.-An internal-combustion engine comprises two movable parallel members with skew teeth which are separated by a fixed partition and co-operate with a third moving toothed member crossing the other two at right angles; the latter in conjunction with one of the parallel screw members serves to draw in and compress a combustible charge which is directly transferred to the second parallel screw member where after explosion it is expanded and exhausted. A multiple arrangement may be provided in which each member driven by the explosion serves also as a compression element for the succeeding member driven by the explosion. In the form shown in the drawings, of which Fig. 1 is a sectional elevation and Figs. 4 and 10 developed sections, the engine comprises two rotary members 1, 2 having screw threads 6, 7 with which co-operate helicoidal elements 8 carried by a chain member moving at right angles to the rotary members and passing fluid-tight through a partition 5 which separates the rotary members 1, 2. With the rotary and chain members moving in the directions of the arrows F<1>, F, respectively, Fig. 4, the screw thread 6 of the first rotary member 1 and the helicoidal elements 8 of the chain form a chamber a which, first expanding and then contracting, serves to draw in and compress the charge which later, when the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 10, is ignited and expands in a chamber b which is formed bv the thread 7 of the second rotary member 2 and the helicoidal elements 8. The charge is introduced through ports in the chain elements S. Additional ports serve to draw in and compress air for cooling the engine. Vanes are fitted on the chain to feed lubricant to a reservoir from which it passes to the required points by gravity.
