Abstract
281,646. B÷hm, E. Dec. 1. 1926, [Convention date]. Fibres, treating. -To increase the lustre, animal hair or wool, or articles made therefrom, particularly felt hat shapes, are treated with substances evolving chlorine under the action of an oxidizing agent and an oxidizing agent. The chlorine in the nascent state is taken up by the material being treated. Preferably, a chloride and an acid are used which furnish a salt soluble in water, e.g. an alkali chloride and sulphuric acid. Velour hat bodies may be treated for one hour at 80‹ C. with a 5 per cent solution of common salt, then brought into a 2 per cent solution of hydrogen peroxide to which 2 per cent of sulphuric acid is gradually added. Alternatively, the bodies may be soaked with 0.5 per cent to 1 per cent hydrochloric acid, and then immersed in water to which peroxide of hydrogen is gradually added; or after the soaking, partially dried and then brushed with a 0.2 per cent to 0.6 per cent solution of peroxide of hydrogen. Organic substances such as aniline hydrochloride may be used as chlorine-evolving agents.
