Abstract
281,541. Pr³ss, M. May 23, 1927. Plant.-The sludge from the bottom of a sludge digestion tank x, Fig. 1. is drawn through a pipe 1 by a pump 2 and delivered through a pipe 2<a> to just below the surface level. This treatment is stated to lead to the escape of gas which would otherwise be retained in the. lower layers and would hinder decomposition. The pump may be operated intermittently. Fig. 2 shows an Imhoff settling and digestion tank fitted with a screw propeller 10, driven by an electro-motor 12, and arranged to lift sludge from the bottom up a central pipe 7 for discharge through apertures 9. The digestion may be further assisted by reversal of the pump or propeller so that floating sludge is carried down to the bottom. Specification 247,066 is referred to.
