Games of chance; games of skill.-Apparatus for playing a game comprises a number of playing pieces supported on a platform, and means rotatable relatively to the platform adapted to strike and thereby dislodge any one or more of the playing pieces. A platform b is provided with a series of holes c arranged in a circle and each adapted to receive the base of a skittle d. A rotatable spindle mounted centrally of the holes c is provided with an operating knob b<1> and with weighted arms m acting as a flywheel. Pivoted to a collar q fixed to the spindle is an arm v flexibly connected at its free end to a rounded striking member a<1>. The striking member normally rotates in the position shown, but may be raised to engage the skittles by an upward movement of a flanged sleeve n that is loosely mounted on the spindle and is actuated to engage a projection t on the arm v when either of two plungers p' is depressed. A rotatable shaft d<1> is provided centrally with a fork c<1> engaging the lower flange p of the sleeve n and at each end with a projection i<1>, Fig. 3, for engagement with a block k<1> pivoted to one of the plungers p<1>. During the downward movement of a plunger p<1>, the block k<1> engages the corresponding projection i<1> thereby raising the striking member into active position. During the upward movement of the plunger under the action of a spring r', the block trips past the projection into its initial position. In a modification, two spindles connected by gearing are provided, the one carrying the flywheel element and the other the striking member, the former being adapted for rotation either by a knob or by a rack and pinion device. In playing the game, the striking member is caused to rotate, a cap t" is placed over the knob and one of the plungers is depressed, the value of the skittle or skittles displaced being scored. An element of skill may be introduced by providing apertures in the platform through which the striking member may be viewed, or by the provision of a pointer on the knob.
