Abstract

280,251. Shorter, H. H. May 14, 1926. Continuous paving.-An absorbent paving for tennis and like courts consists of a hardcore or clinker foundation, a porous cushioning layer from one to one and a half inches thick and consisting of clinker, ragstone, or slag graded from one inch to half an inch, rolled, and then sprayed with cold emulsified bitumen in the proportion of one half to one gallon per super yard, and a top surface consisting of one or two layers of finer grit such as granite or sand mixed before laying with 10 to 20 per cent of cold emulsified bitumen and a little cement. The top surface may be coloured in the mixing with a pigment such as Reading green. As an example, the top layer may consist of 62 per cent aggregate, 3 per cent cement, 15 per cent colouring, and 20 per cent bitumen emulsion.
