Abstract

280,235. Telefunken Ges. f³r Drahtlose Telegraphie. Nov. 5, 1926, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes.-The path of the electron stream from a cathoderay tube is controlled by voltages derived from a pair of directional aerials. The incoming signal voltages are applied across two pairs of control electrodes a, a, b, b, which may be either plates or coils. For a definite ratio of applied voltages, the path of the electron stream will strike a sector-shaped metal screen S. and will induce currents which may be detected in a suitable external circuit (not shown). Other ratios, corresponding to signals coming from directions other than that desired, will not be recorded in the external detecting circuit. A screening device may be incorporated in the tube further to protect the sector S against undesired signals. Alternatively the sector S may be replaced by a screen adapted to be illuminated by the impact of the electron stream, the luminescence, in turn, exciting a photoelectric cell inserted in series with a suitable indicating circuit. Or secondary emission created by the impact of the electron stream may be utilized to record the incoming signals. Specification 247,344 is referred to.
