Abstract
547,124. Television amplifiers. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. July 26, 1941, No. 9522. Convention date, July 31, 1940. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] Relates to television receiving apparatus including a cathode-ray tube in which the ray is focused on a luminescent screen and is modulated by being laterally shifted before passing through an aperture, this modulation being non- linear. According to the invention, this non- linear defect is compensated by distorting the input signal on its way to the modulating device. As shown, the electrodes 26, 27, 26<1>, 27<1> controlling the lateral shift of the ray before it passes through the aperture disc 22 are connected in pairs between one terminal of the signal input and a tapping 39 on the anode resistance r<1>, r<2> of a multi grid thermionic tube 41, to which the signal is also fed. A bias battery 40 is inserted in the lead to the tapping 39, and the various electrodes of the tube 41 are connected and biased as shown so as to produce a variable voltage across the resistance r<1>, r<2> which compensates the non-linear defect of the modulating device of the cathode-ray, thereby giving an overall linear relation between modulation of ray and signal input.
