Abstract

279,673. Wilberz, J. Dec. 21, 1926. Lathes.-In a lathe for screw-cutting &c., the lead screw mav be connected to the slide rest at different points along the length of the screw so that for different operations different parts of the screw may be used for traversing purposes. The lead screw 5 is driven from a pinion 6 on the spindle through gearing 7, shaft 9, worm gearing 10. shaft 11, bevel gearing 12, shaft 14 and gearing 16. The slide 20 carries two split nuts 21, 22 coacting with the screw and both actuated from a handle 25, the arrangement being such that when the handle is turned to close one nut the other nut is opened. One of the nuts may be employed for turning operations and the other for screw-cutting.
