Abstract

279,616. Newey, J. G., and Jerred, C. B. Oct. 9, 1926. Barrel and like rotary apparatus; electrolytes, circulating.-A barrel for nickel-plating small articles comprises metal end-plates a bolted to a shell b of octagonal or other polygonal section proved with a wooden lining c. The anodes consist of annular plates d held against insulation e in recesses in the end-plates. Discs f of celluloid perforated except in the centre are arranged in front of the anodes. The barrel is provided with trunnions g mounted in bearings h and is driven by gearing. The trunnions are provided with leadlined passages m for the supply and withdrawal of electrolyte which is thereby forced radially between the anodes and the cover-plates. Connection is made to the articles by studs 2 connected to a slip-ring r. An opening fitted with a cover is provided in one face of the barrel, and a drain-plug at the opposite face. Apparatus for circulation of the electrolyte to and from a reservoir is described.
