Abstract

279,190. Wade, H., (Armstrong Cork Co.). Aug. 6, 1926. Drawings to Specification. Cork, treating. - Particles of cork are agglomerated into blocks, boards, &c., by compressing them in a mould, and passing hot gases through them under such conditions that an exothermic reaction of an oxidizing nature takes place. Suitable gases are stated to be air, air and steam, steam alone, furnace gases, and the temperature may be 220‹-350‹ C. The time of treatment varies, but may be 20 min. after the upper surface of an article reaches 100‹ C., the gas being passed upwards. The cork may he preheated to shorten the process. The gas may be passed after use through the heater and be re-used; a weaker reaction occurs thereby. Suitable apparatus comprises a mould with perforated end-plates capable of being locked under pressure, and inlets and outlets for the heated gas. Specification 26074/07 is referred to.
