Rolling-machines.-In order to form balls or nodules bituminous shales crushed into grains of maximum size about 10 mm. and water amounting to about 23 per cent are fed into a rotating drum A, having a rough inner surface formed for example of perforated plates, by a conveyer B adapted to deliver the shales at different distances from the feeding end according to the size of agglomerate required. The other end of the drum may have a screen or is connected to a drum C provided with a screen and leading to a drying drum E. Pieces of insufficient size are separated in the drum C and returned to the inlet drum D, the other pieces, which should not be larger than a hen's egg, passing to the drying drum.
