Abstract

277,508. Spencer (Melksham), Ltd., and Porter, S. W. Oct. 4, 1926. Feeding-devices for endless chain elevators.- An elevator comprising a pair of endless chains united at intervals by carriers is provided with a balanced feeding shoot which is brought automatically into position for feeding to the elevator by the weight of the sack, box, barrel, &c. deposited thereon. At the end of the roller conveyer b is hinged a roller table c which is raised and lowered by a cam timing gear d and link work driven from the elevator shaft f. When the table is lowered an article is deposited on the hinged shoot g and causes it to assume an upright position so that the article is in a position to be engaged by the carriers of the elevator. The shoot is locked in this position by a catch h which is released by an elevator carrier. On release the shoot may return automatically to its inclined position or be pushed back by a lever i connected to the catch. If an article has moved towards the lower end of the table c by the time the linkwork is forcing the table upwards, it is prevented from further movement until the table is lowered by being griped between a pivoted plate k and the table. The downward movement of the table is limited bystops. In a modification, the table is moved automatically by the weight of the article and means is provided for preventing the articles from entering the shoot at a time when they would foul the elevator carrier..
