Abstract

276,943. Norton, B. July 14, 1927. Reciprocating picks. - In machines for breaking coal &c. and of the kind in which the coal is carried on a conveyer under reciprocating picks, the conveyer is supported beneath the picks by a resiliently-mounted anvil so that the conveyer and anvil can yield when the picks encounter anv hard substances on the conveyer. As shown, the anvils 1 are supported on springs 2 which abut against a fixed frame 3 and hold the anvils against stops 4. One of the shafts 7 of the drums 6 carrying the conveyer 5 is mounted in spring-pressed bearings 8 so that it can move inwards when the conveyers and anvils are depressed. The picks 13 are shown carried by a parallelogram frame 11, 12, but they may be operated independently.
