Electric hot-plates. - An electric waffle iron comprises two cooking plates 10, 11 hinged together at 12, 13, and having a sheathed heating-unit 26, 27 on the back of each plate, means for clamping the units on the cooking plates, and covers 18, 20 secured to the plates and fitting over the heating-units, supporting-means, such as legs 19, being secured to one of the covers. The plates 10, 11 are identical in construction so that, when the upper plate is inverted, the single and bifurcated hinge lugs 14, 15 interengage as shown in Fig. 3. The lugs 14 are recessed and the recesses are grooved to receive the convolutions of an armoured cable 45 which connects the supply contacts 38, 39 on the stationary lower portion of the iron to the upper heating element 26. The ends of the cable 45 are held in the recesses by the covers 18, 20 which are bolted to the plates by screws 22. The cover 20 is secured also by the lifting handle 23. The heating-units may be of the type described in Specification 144,767, [Class 37, Electricity, Measuring &c.], the outer metallic sheath 33 being held on to the plates 10, 11 by clamping plates 28, 29 which are dish-shaped to clear the central bosses 32 to which they are secured by screws 31. The plates 28, 29 have radial ribs 30, which bear on the sheaths 33, and struck out tabs which co-operate with projections 36 on the plates 10, 11 accurately to position the heating-units. The contacts 38, 39 are covered by a guard 40.
