Abstract

Cigarette-making machines.- In a continuous-rod machine, a mounting for the tongue 6 of the rod-forming mechanism comprises a support which is adjustable transversely of the length of the tongue and preferably is also adjustable vertically, the tongue being detachably mounted in a definite fixed position on the support. As shown, the forming mechanism comprises a channelled member 7 and guide plates 8, and the tongue 6 is provided near the delivery end with a web 21 having an open slot for engagement with a stem 24, on which it is secured by a screw 25. The stem is transversely adjustable in a block 23 by means of an adjusting nut 28, and the block itself is vertically adjustable by means of a screw 29 in a bracket 22 mounted on one of the guide plates 8, abutment springs 27, 30 being provided. Horizontal movement of the block 23 in the bracket 22 is prevented by pins 31. The screws 28, 29 are maintained in adjusted position by flat springs 32, 33. At the receiving end, the tongue 6 is provided with a bracket 19 attached by a screw 20 to one of the guide plates 8. The tongue can be dismounted and replaced, without disturbing its adjustment, by loosening the screws 20, 25.
