Abstract
275,887. Clark, D'A. M., (Bendix Brake Co.). March 8, 1927. Blocks and shoes. -Brake shoes that are formed of pressings or stampings of metal comprise a lining-carrying part and one or more stiffening web parts having a series of tongues preferably bent in opposite directions and secured to the lining- carrying part. This construction may be employed for the shoes of a three-shoe brake of the type shown in Fig. 1 and comprising a shoe 10 anchored at 12, a servo shoe 14 pivotally connected to the shoe 10 at 16 and a reverse shoe 18 separately anchored at 20 or pivoted at this point on the shoe 10. The shoes 14, 18 are identical and each comprise a shallow channel-shaped lining- carrying part 22 and a web part 30 having alternately oppositely bent tongues 32 spot-welded or riveted to the part 22. The part 22 is bent radially at 28 for engagement with the operating cam and the tongues on the web 30 are secured to this radial part in a similar manner to the circumferential part. The shoe 10 is provided with two spaced webs similarly attached to the lining- carrying part and the pivot arms of the shoes 14, 18 extend between these spaced webs.
