Abstract

275,646. W³st, F. Aug. 6, 1926, [Convention date]. Shaft and reverberatory furnaces.-Cast iron with a low proportion of carbon is produced by melting molten iron or steel scrap, or other material having a low carbon content, in a cupola a delivering into a reverberatory furnace d wherein a high temperature is maintained sufficient to ensure formation of eutectic graphite, the percentage of carbon in the cast iron being controlled by the quantity of coke fed to the cupola. The waste heat from the reverberatory furnace assists the cupola, the coke charge of which can thus be kept as low as desired. The air for the reverberatory furnace is heated in a counter-current heater <g> through which the gases from the cupola are passed.
