Abstract

. 275,269. Hanning, C. R. July 30, 1926, [Convention date]. Saws.-A hacksaw blade is tightened by means of a lever pivoted to the lower end of the handle to swing up against the inner face of the handle and adapted to be grasped together with the handle when the saw is used. The frame 10 is of J-shape, the bent portion having grip members 15 secured thereto by screws 16 and the short part 12 parallel with the back 10 being fitted with a socket 13 having a non-circular opening 14 in which is guided a slide bar 25 with pins 26, 27 to engage one end of the blade 18. The slide bar is slotted and carries a roller 29 engaged by a cam finger 32 on a lever 31 pivoted to the frame at 30. The other end of the blade is engaged by a pin 23 or 24 on an anchor arm 17 which is pivoted to a clip 20 and has a gripping projection 21. When the lever 31 is moved towards the handle the cam finger 32 actuates the slide bar 25 and tensions the saw blade; the cam finger has a flat part 33 and the pivot 30 is above the line of pull of the saw blade to resist release of the tension. The hand grips 15 are spaced apart to receive the lever 31 when in tightening position, which lever may be formed as a loop or otherwise.
