Abstract

Corner-joints; battens, strengthening; stacking, details in connection with.-In a box made of boards or planks of wood &c., the nails &c. securing the parts together are arranged so as to be only or mainly subjected to strains at right angles to their axes. The end walls c of the box are each provided with vertical battens d secured to their outer faces a batten width from the vertical edges thereof and the side walls a are similarly provided with battens b along their vertical edges, the battens b butting against the battens d and being secured thereto by nails m. Battens e are also secured along the bottom edges of the ends c and are secured bv nails to battens g arranged transversely across the bottom f and the lid h carries transverse battens i, k, the batten i being nailed to one end c and the batten k to the batten l provided on the inner face of the other end. The ends of the nails are preferably upset or clenched over. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 3) (a) states that the upper ends of the vertical battens d or b project above the upper edges of the walls of the box and their lower ends are recessed so that several boxes can be superposed. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
